Easter

So this post is backwards, it should have come before the last one but I couldn’t wait to write about Alice.  So now on to Easter.  This Easter felt kind of weird, everyone seemed gloomy or in some kind of funk.  I don’t know maybe it was just my imagination.  Ashley was missing, my Great and Uncle didn’t make the trip, and some were sick and just not feeling well.  With all that we still had a great time, lots of food like always.  Of course there was an Easter egg hunt, and this year Coleman was able to do it.  Courtney and I hid the eggs in the front yard - I skipped the back yard this year, mainly because my grass (well weeds) need cut.  We threw several of them in the front yard, and I told Connor those were for Coleman.  When we went outside to hide the eggs, of course Connor was trying to cheat and look out the blinds to see where we were hiding them.

Of course lets not forget the night before we dyed Easter eggs and it was a mess, well Connor’s hands turned out to me. DSC01580

Welcome to the World Alice Claire!

Last Wed. April 27th, of of my very dear friends gave birth to a beautiful baby girl!  I am not only happy for her on the birth of her 3rd child, but thrilled she included me in on the labor and birth of Alice.  I feel very honored she wanted to share that special moment with me and picked me out of everyone she could have had in there.  It really was a miracle.

I think I was more nervous then Meggie was.  Up until the day of I kept asking her if there was anything she did or didn’t want while she was in labor.  Although I had a C-Section I remember I didn’t want anyone in the room talking before they took me back.  I think because I experienced a C-Section when I had Connor that is why the birth of Alice made it that more special.  I got the see the process from beginning to end.   The nights before I was waking up making sure I didn’t miss a phone call.  I was so worried that she would try to call in the middle of the night and I would sleep right through the call.

On Wed. I talked to her that morning and nothing had changed.  At 10 am she called me and told me she was going to go to the hospital to be checked because she was having some bleeding and she was really hoping they would just keep her.  At this point she was miserable.  The drive to the hospital was also a hour and half and she was worried she may not get there in time if the contractions started on there own.  I left work and meet her down there.  They checked her and the Dr. wanted to go ahead and start the medicine to induce her labor, they started that at 1 pm.  She made labor and contractions seem so easy.  She didn’t get an epidural until about 8ish pm when she was about 7cm. By that time the contractions has got worse and she has all she could take.  The epidural worked right away and she felt immediately relief.  Closer to 11 pm it wore off and she was back to being able to feel everything.  I felt so bad, because she was in so much pain and I couldn’t do a thing to help.  I rang for the RN and asked if she could get the Dr., and see if they couldn’t give her some more of the medicine.  The whole time Meggie was saying she felt the baby, She was checked and was at 8cm. The RN left the room to call both of the Doctors.  Before she was able to make both phone calls I rang for her again and told her she needed to come Meggie kept saying she felt the baby.  She comes back in and stated the OB is on her way but didn’t have time to call the anesthesiologist.  She checks her again and said she was already at a 10.  Then it turned crazy in there, I have never seen so many people move so fast.  They set everything up very fast, and now we were just waiting for the doctor.  At this point when the nurse had checked her she told her it was to late for her to get anything more and she was just going to have to push.  The Dr. came in suited up real fast. Meggie pushed 2 times and Baby Alice was born at 11:03 pm weighing 9lbs. 8oz, and 21 inches long.  She was adorable.

Again I feel very honored that I was able to be there, Meggie holds a special place in my heart and now Alice does to.
